Polylactic acid (PLA) is a bio-degradable polymer harder than PTFE that melts at a low temperature, between 180°C and 220°C. It works well in 3D printers, although its high friction coefficient increases the likelihood of printer jams. Its glass transition temperature is between 60 and 65 °C.
PLA is produced from lactic acid. Lactic acid can be fermented from crops such as maize, making it an ideal material for use in cash poor areas of the world.
This item is one pound of 1.75mm PLA filament on a spool.
